Quilting at the Fowler Museum |

A few years ago the Fowler Museum was given an old fashioned quilting frame by Ruth Ann and Roger Brandon. It had belonged to Ruth Ann’s mother and was ‘gathering dust’ in their garage. Along with the wooden frame came a big box of material, much of it already cut into blocks and just begging to be made into quilts. The generous gift also included quilt books and patterns.
The ladies at the Fowler Historical Society were thrilled because the year before they had decided to honor a tradition started by a local pioneer, Florence Richardson. She, being a seamstress, had scraps of material and neckties which she made into quilts and gave to the museum to raffle on Missouri Day. This very successful and anticipated event in the community had been revived, first using quilt tops Florence had made before her death at the age of 102 years and later with quilts made by the members of the Historical Society. |
